Academy Information:

Our Academy is located in the Whitfield area of Dover, Kent and supports a growing roll of 770 students, the school is expected to be oversubscribed in September 2019. Our post 16 provision is comprehensive and student roll is also increasing in size.

We have recently completed an £11m new build and refurbishment project creating state of the art facilities including vocational spaces for Hair & Beauty, Catering and Construction together with all new Science laboratories. Our extensive sport hall, fitness suite and dance studio is a focal point for increasing community participation in a range of sporting activities.

Examination results in 2017 saw the Academy maintaining outcomes above DfE floor standards with a progress 8 score of minus 0.44 with floor being minus 0.5. The percentage of students gaining 5 grades including English and Maths above the standard pass of 4, rose significantly to 44%.

An Ofsted inspection of the Academy took place in October 2016, the outcome of which was “Requires Improvement” for overall effectiveness. However, the effectiveness of leadership and management, personal development, behaviour and welfare; and 16 to 19 study programmes were all rated Good and the continuing progress of the Academy was reported, including that “much has been achieved in terms of raising pupils’ aspirations, developing a more academic curriculum and generating overall improvements in progress” The Academy has developed a robust improvement plan in response to the report, in particular, to secure further rapid progress in ensuring that the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and outcomes for pupils become as good as possible.

A monitoring visit from Ofsted was carried out in March 2018 and stated that “Current progress information shows that the majority of pupils in all year groups have made rapid progress this year from their well-below-average starting points.”
