Initial Teacher Training at Dover Christ Church Academy:

The Teaching and Learning team at Dover Christ Church Academy offer several routes to enable passionate and motivated individuals to become fully qualified teachers. As one of the biggest providers of teacher training in the local area, our experienced Teaching and Learning specialists are ideally placed to help you on your journey to becoming a teacher. Our multi-provider coaching and mentoring team is award winning, winning the Canterbury Christ Church “Mentoring Team of the Year” award for 2019-2020 and also the runners-up award for 2020-2021.

As soon as you become a student teacher at Dover Christ Church Academy, you become part of the Academy’s ethos and vision. Professional development is vital part of being a teacher and as soon as you start your journey of becoming a teacher, you will be fully immersed in every aspect of school life with your own teaching timetable and dedicated coach. Our comprehensive teacher training programme provides trainee teachers with all the tools needed to become a confident and reflective practitioner. By the end of your training programme, you will be able to:

  • Set high standards which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils,

  • Promote good progress and outcomes by pupils,

  • Demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge,

  • Plan and teach well-structured lessons,

  • Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils,

  • Make accurate and productive use of assessment,

  • Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment.

Dover Christ Church Academy welcomes applications from Early Careers Teachers. The government now offers a fully funded two year induction programme for all ECTs. This programme builds on the new Early Career Framework to enable ECTs to develop the skills and knowledge needed to thrive as a teacher.

The curriculum of the ECT programme is entirely evidenced based derived from cutting-edge, worldwide educational research. Each ECT has their own, personal instructional coach to support them, and access to the innovative Steplab online platform to support studying and track progress. In addition to the support given from our appropriate body, Ambition Institute, all ECTs will have access to all whole school and departmental CPD with the later option to work towards a range of National Professional Qualifications on successful completion of the ECT programme.
