Our Academy is located in the Whitfield area of Dover, Kent and supports a growing roll of 690 students, our expected intake of 170 year 7 students [including Aspen 2] in September 2017 is oversubscribed. Our post 16 provision is comprehensive and student roll is also increasing in size.We have recently completed an £11m new build and refurbishment project creating state of the art facilities including vocational spaces for Hair & Beauty, Catering and Construction together with all new Science laboratories. Our extensive sport hall, fitness suite and dance studio is a focal point for increasing community participation in a range of sporting activities.
Examination results in 2016 saw the Academy maintaining outcomes above DfE floor standards with a progress 8 score of minus 0.15 with floor being minus 0.5. This compares with a progress 8 score in 2015 of minus 0.55 and reflects a significant step forward. Levels of expected progress in English improved from 62% to 70% but fell slightly from 64% to 59% in Mathematics which none the less produced a positive progress 8 score of + 0.02. Gaps in progress and achievement for disadvantaged students have narrowed very significantly.An Ofsted inspection of the Academy took place in October 2016, the outcome of which was “Requires Improvement” for overall effectiveness. However, the effectiveness of leadership and management, personal development, behaviour and welfare; and 16 to 19 study programmes were all rated Good and the continuing progress of the Academy was reported, including that “much has been achieved in terms of raising pupils’ aspirations, developing a more academic curriculum and generating overall improvements in progress” The Academy has developed a robust improvement plan in response to the report, in particular, to secure further rapid progress in ensuring that the quality of teaching, learning and assessment and outcomes for pupils become as good as possible.
